The World Adult Boxing Championship will be held in the Baluan Sholak Palace of Sports and Culture in Almaty, Kazakhstan on October 14-26 as was established in an agreement signed by the ‘Kazakhstan Boxing Federation’ Legal Entities Association and the International Amateur Boxing Association (AIBA).

For the first time ever, Kazakhstan will be hosting a global event in an Olympic sport. The country has got this privilege by virtue of the reputation of the Kazakhstan Boxing Federation on the global sports arena and achievements of Kazakhstan boxers in international high-level tournaments.

On April 12, 2012 in Astana, the International Amateur Boxing Association (AIBA) and the Kazakhstan Boxing Federation arranged a ceremony to sign the agreement to hold the 2013 World Adult Boxing Championship in Kazakhstan. The signing ceremony was attended by AIBA President Ching-Kuo Wu and President of the Kazakhstan Boxing Federation Timur Kulibayev.

A decision to hold the 2013 World Adult Boxing Championship in Kazakhstan was unanimously made in a meeting of the AIBA Executive Committee on August 1, 2011 in Astana. Serik Konakbayev, Vice President of the Kazakhstan Boxing Federation and a member of the AIBA Executive Committee, presented Kazakhstan’s application to host the 2013 World Boxing Championship.

The World Championship in Almaty is a global-scale event that will gain attention of millions of boxing fans both in Kazakhstan, where boxing is a dynamically developing and most favored sport, and in the rest of the world. This global tournament in Almaty will be a milestone event in the boxing history as it will be held by the new AIBA rules, with no headguards.

Boxers and officials representing the member countries, the International Olympic Committee, AIBA and international mass media will come to Almaty to participate in and attend the World Championship. The total number of the World Championship participants and guests is expected to reach fifteen hundred some people.

The bouts of the world’s strongest amateur boxers will be broadcasted by the Total Sport Asia global network and by a national TV Channel in Kazakhstan and covered by press and electronic mass media.
